Run Over

I was thrown under the bus.

Not literally, figuratively.

By someone who asked me volunteer for something in order to make their job easier.

I called her out on it, let's see how far it gets me.

I want to call her a not nice name but I can't afford the karma hit.

Hurry, someone do it for me!

Motto, 2010

Our motto for 2010 is to support each other, no matter what.

Now Tim and I really have no problem supporting each other, after 12+ years of marriage and 15 years together we have a lot of practice. We each have no problem supporting the girls either. Although I have to admit Taylor's new attitude that she knows more at ten years old than I do at thirty makes it hard at times. The new motto is to help encourage the girls to support each other. They need that. Really, you have no idea how much they need that.

On a typical week this is what I hear:

Monday, Bailey: I don't want to sit at soccer. It's cold. It's wet. This is boring.

Tuesday, Taylor: I hate this. I hate sitting here. It's too loud to do homework in here. I can't read with the noise.

Wednesday, Bailey: Ugh, this again. Boring. This is awful. I forgot my apple cider. I need a book. It's cold. I lost my glove.

Thursday, Taylor: I'm tired, I don't want to sit at ballet. Can't you leave me home? Alone? Why not? Please?? Ugh, I forgot my book at home. And my reading glasses so I can't do my homework. This is your fault. I didn't want to come in the first place.

Friday: *blessed silence*

Saturday, both girls: UGH!

Basically, the girls hate the others chosen activity. I won't admit to being in love with sitting outside in the pouring rain while it is 35 degrees but I still do it and it's fun. Okay, I have a case of hand and feet warmers too. I don't love sitting in a noisy lobby for 3 hours a week either especially when I can't see Bailey to watch her practice but I still do it, and it isn't fun. I do it because the girls love it. That's the payoff, I don't get anything out of it besides happy kids. And sometimes I wind up with unhappy kids, one who has blisters on her feet from her new ballet slippers and muscles that hurt or one with a twisted ankle and a bruise the exact size of a cleat on her stomach but they still love it deep down but neither ever wants to quit. They have the same drive, the same spunk but can't see it in each other. They both often opt to stay at nana's house if they can avoid the others scheduled activity of the day.

No more. This is a new year, a new motto but not a resolution. It will just be, it has to be. I am tired of them picking at each other so there can be no failure. They must be supportive of each other. They don't have to like the activity but they will support each other. No camping out at nana's house to get out of attending an early morning away game.

We will support each other and we will like it! Dammit!

The first test is this weekend, soccer tournament Friday through Monday. First game 9:05 AM, check-in 8:20. This should be good...

Take One

 

Yesterday was a very long day. Bailey had the dress rehearsal for her year end ballet performance, Sleeping Beauty. She is a member of the Royal Court and opens the show.

Her class is made up of six girls, including herself, and they are partnered up off and on through out their dance. Their teacher left after Saturdays regular rehearsal for a summer long trip to PA leaving them without an instructor. Last night they were short one girl, the missing girl is someone else's partner in the beginning of the dance and Bailey's partner at the end of the dance. They also intertwine around each other three different times during the dance, I can't explain it I just know that the girls are mixed up missing one person.  Needless to say things did not go well.

We were at the Performing Arts Center from 3:30 to 8:30, we were actually released at 7:45 but since the girls actually only got to run through their dance once with no instructor help and had no idea what to do being short one person I cornered an instructor and asked her if it was possible that the girls could go over their dance again with a bit of help. You know, since Thursday is the performance and they don't know how to do the dance being one short. They got to run through it one more time with someone reading instructions off of a piece of paper. The dance was better the first time. The school has a strict policy that if you don't make it to a dress rehearsal you will not be allowed to do the actual performance, this does not bode well.

As a parent I am extremely irritated. I completely understand the teacher's situation and why she is spending the summer in PA. The school should have compensated for that, there are several other instructors who could have, should have, stepped in and pointed the girls in the right direction. I realize the girls are 7 and don't expect perfection, far from it. I expect and hope for her to have a good time and to learn ballet, something she absolutely loves. She was not loving it last night, none of the girls were.

The hard part is that Bailey loves her teacher. I am undecided about next year. The school is across town, about 30 minutes from the new place. There is a pricier more established school closer, much closer. The closer school is about 2 1/2 times as much per month and the classes are twice a week opposed to once a week but I think she will learn more.

Yes, I am seriously considering paying quite a bit of money monthly to keep her in ballet. Ballet is her thing. She loves it and is serious about it, even at 7.

I just have to make sure I can work a soccer schedule around it. Sometimes having a husband who works swing shift sucks donkey butt.

Tuesdays Too

Got held up by the train on the way to school this morning, sat forever in massive line of traffic.

A bird flew into the Jeep. Not inside the Jeep, it literally flew into the side of the Jeep. *thwack*

Kids were late for last day of school, trains fault. Bird quite possibly freaked me the frack out as well.
