Friends, we have some!

First Sleepover

Taylor had a friend sleepover this weeked, while she has been to sleepovers at Asia's house before we have never had Asia stay here. The girls stayed up watching movies until 11:30 and then went upstairs to bed. However, when Tim and I went to bed about 1:00 Taylor and Asia were still talking. I left them alone and let them wake up on their own in the morning. We saw them the next morning about 10 when they finally crawled out of their cave demanding food.

Who knew three girls could pack away that much Chinese food? And cinnamon twists the next morning, 3 of them are still missing. Is it a coincidence that there were 3 girls eating them? I think not.

11 Years Later

I got an e-mail earlier this week that kind of threw me for a loop. It was from someone that I haven't spoken to in over 11 years. Someone who was once my best friend, all through junior high and high school we were inseparable. Coloring each others hair in my bathroom, marble counter tops clean up pretty well but I seem to remember a few holy shit I got red hair color on the counter moments. I also remember not asking our parents first but that is beside the point (sorry mom). Seeing Nada Surf somewhere in Riverside while sitting on a pool table and almost knocking a beer sponsored light from the ceiling, I was clumsy talented even then what can I say. Ditching school and going to the water park in Palm Springs. With my mom. Ha! So, we were lame ditchers. Or maybe smart ditchers. Dudes, her dad introduced me to Nutella, that alone should offer her family up for sainthood.

Somehow, during the summer after graduation, also the summer Tim and I got married, we lost touch. Now that isn't exactly right. We didn't lose touch. I was wrapped up in getting married at 18 (go ahead, say it with me... holy hell, what was she thinking? Eh, it works for us.) and her life kept moving. Things kept going on around me and I didn't notice. We didn't drift apart, we lost each other. I thought everything was fine until she wasn't at my wedding. But neither of us picked up the phone. We were both too hurt.

I have often wondered about her over the years and there are a couple of things that make me think of her. Looking back over 11 years my reasons for being hurt seem so petty. Looking back over 11 years I have realized how much I missed her.

Interview Day

Ashley had her first job interview since becoming a WA state resident. Yes, I consider her a resident. She has her own library card and ordered a cell phone so maybe she plans on staying for a bit. Whatever she decides, we like having her and E here.

Then there is the obligatory action shot:

That shot was painful, by the time I got one that was usable I was doubled over laughing at her.

Goober.

At least she got all of her silliness out before the interview. Although, when she came home she did say that the entire time there she wanted to call one of the interviewers names.

Strange, strange girl.

Tim's Inspection

Ashley and Ethan got here on Tuesday and Ethan has been attached to Tim's hip ever since. They have quite the bond, Ethan likes to crawl all over Tim and Tim has more patience than anyone I know.

This afternoon Ethan decided that Tim needed an inspection. Tim and Taylor were playing SSBB on the Wii and Ethan HAD to inspect him.

First he checked out his head:

Then he checked his eyes:

Then E decided that Tim passed his inspection with flying colors and he deserved a little love:

Love that kid!

This place is a zoo!

Yesterday was Bailey's big day. Her last day as a kindergartener and her first field trip. We headed to the Point Defiance Zoo and Aquarium.

Dsc03142

These were my two charges for the day, my own Baileybug and her BFF Angie.

We visited the aquarium portion of the zoo first where I promptly broke the rules by forgetting to turn my flash off.

Then we headed off to the Asian Forest Sanctuary which the girls quickly dubbed the stinky section, we found this big guy.

Dsc03145

This next guy was causing a ruckus. They rotate the animals to this one specific "display" cage, meaning it smells like all of the other animals that had been in there previously. He was a bit stirred up hunting for them but it was neat for the kids to get to see him moving about.

Dsc03147

As soon as we got into the zoo I asked what each girl wanted to see. I pretty much knew that Bailey was going to say monkies. I didn't anticipate that Angie would have the same answer. That should have made things pretty simple, right? Heh, except that they were all curled up in a basket asleep. Thankfully they woke up shortly (could it have been the horde of 6 year-olds tapping on the glass??) and the girls were happy with that.

Tootsie Roll break!

We went and watched a show after that and had lunch. Then I took some more Sudafed. After that I felt like this guy and stopped taking pictures.

Sunny Day Fun

We headed out to a birthday party at the local Family Fun Center this weekend. It was sunny and hot and the perfect day to enjoy some bumper boats outdoors.

The girls had a fun time and I think the birthday boy had a great day.

Taylor and the birthday boy go head to head.

All of the kids were soaked when they emerged but since it hit over 90 it really didn't matter. Tim and I kind of wish we had hopped on with them.

Empty Pastures

Ashley and Ethan left for warmer pastures this week. The house has been way too quiet since they left.

No little feet running around my house yelling No Nappy.

No little person asking for his ladies, which sounds very much like boobies and cracks me up every time I hear it.

No big person to eat fried onions with.

No one to fan the smoke alarm when I set it off on a nightly basis.

No coffee cupcakes at 9 AM with cups of coffee as big as our head.

I love when they come to visit but it seems so empty when they go.

Giddy-up Mom!

Dsc03051

I may have taught Ethan how to smack her ass and say giddy-up...

At some point she is going to pay me back, I think she is keeping a running tab and saving it for when the girls get to be teenagers. I am slightly terrified.

Whiny Walkers

Dsc03052

Can you tell that all three of them are thrilled to be there?

What you can't see (or hear) is Ashley standing behind me complaining about the butt muscle she pulled. If it counts for anything, I enjoyed myself and my butt feels okay.

Backseat Rockstars

This one is missing the movie due to Vox/TypePad move. Once Ashley e-mails it to me I will add it back in.

Ashley and I decided to take the kids to Rainforest Cafe for dinner tonight. On the way there we listened to Radio Disney on the satellite radio. Hannah Montana came on singing Rockstar. Ethan had no idea who she was but as you can see he was darn happy to dance along.

The monthly subscription fee is so worth the moment above.
